American Cancer Society Updates Guideline for Colorectal Cancer
Earlier this week, the American Cancer Society (ACS) updated their guideline for colorectal cancer screening for people at average risk.
As new data is showing rates of colorectal cancer are increasing in younger populations, the guideline now recommends regular screenings for adults begin at age 45. This was updated in an effort to help save more lives by detecting signs of colorectal cancer further in advance. If caught in the early stages, treatment, as well as the ability to detect and remove polyps, is more likely to be successful.
SGNA played a role in helping review the draft recommendations and rationale for these guidelines, now published online in CA – A Cancer Journal for Clinicians. Details about the new guideline can be found on the ACS website.
